Camper for a Night Fundraising Event
For our 3rd annual fundraising event, we tried something new…an evening at Indian Creek Winery celebrating all things camp. We enjoyed dutch oven cooking, sang camp songs, roasted s’mores and enjoyed a program about how Cascade Lake 4-H Camp has positively impacted the lives of youth.
It was a successful first time venture raising a little over $6,500. All of the proceeds will go toward much needed updates to our camp facilities.
Thank you to all of the volunteers who made the event possible as well as the “Friends of 4-H Camp” who came out to enjoy being a “Camper for Night.” We appreciate your generous contributions.

Heard Around the Campfire…
4-H camp was a very big learning and growing experience for me. Camp was my first extended trip away from home. As an only child, I never had the opportunity to interact with other kids on a 24 hour basis. I learned a lot about sharing and living with other people and about learning to accommodate others instead of just myself. Although, according to my husband I still need to work on my sharing skills.
My favorite camp song was the “Bear in Tennis Shoes” song. I have used it quite often to entertain youngsters. The other day, I met a bear, a great big bear, oh way up there…
The shared camp experience enhanced my 4-H friendships as we learned a great deal about each other at camp. If I had children, I would tell them to make as many friends as possible and to enjoy every moment. It has been over 20 years since 4-H camp and I still have some great once in a lifetime memories from my time there.

Grant & Contribution Update
Home Depot Foundation Grant
The Cascade Lake 4H Camp was selected for a $2500 Building Healthy Communities Grant this year. Funds were used to replace worn cabin doors & frames on the 5 south cabins. New handles and locks were added to all 15 of the cabins. There were enough funds to be able to replace the rusted shelving in the kitchen bathroom, paint the bathroom and laundry area, repair lighting to campfire area, add new entries to north bath and ADA steps to another cabin. We appreciated the helpful employees at the Nampa Home Depot, especially Patty Meredith who found us the best prices and Anthony Alley who painted all the doors at the store. Thanks Home Depot!
Shelton Grant Fund
Perc H Shelton and Gladys A Pospisil Shelton Foundation Advised Fund was established in 2004 to help enrich life’s quality throughout Idaho. A $1,000 grant was approved to help update the north bathroom with new shower heads and valves. Many of the valves had worn out or did not shut off properly. Thanks to the work of plumber, Mike Blessing of Meridian, the showers are working great.
New Dock at Camp
The Cynthia Brush Memorial Fund and Intermountain Community Bank donated funds to replace the floating dock in the swimming area. Ken and Claudia Brush started the fund in memory of their daughter Cynthia who loved 4H and attending camp. This summer’s campers loved having the dock back in place. Thanks to Pat Momont & Drew Dalgetty for arranging the delivery and Dick & Linda Lee for helping get the dock in the lake.
