Cascade Lake 4-H Camp: Spring 2012 Newsletter

Give 5 To Camp!

  1. It is 4 years until the 50th Anniversary of Cascade Lake 4-H Camp.
  2. Tell 5 youth about attending 4-H Adventure Camps.
  3. Let 5 people know about the camp and how they can support camp.
  4. Bring 5 volunteers with you to a Camp Work Weekend (see below).
  5. Send $5 ($50, $500, $5000…any multiple of five) each year for the next 5 years to the camp to help make improvements.

The Cascade Lake 4-H Camp Board launched its 50th Anniversary Update five years ago after our 40th Anniversary celebration. We set goals of items needing attention before we start our next 50 years. Improvements have started, grants written and ‘Friends of Cascade Lake 4-H Camp‘ made.

The Camp Board appreciates all the Friends that have supported our project by volunteering time and giving financial support. Our estimated cost of needed improvements was $246,000. By the end 2011, we have raised $63,500. We appreciate every dollar received and hour volunteered, but you can see we have much more to accomplish.

With only 4 years to go, we are continuing our “Give 5 to Camp” campaign. Everyone who has ever attended the camp, hopes to someday attend the camp, and knows the value of the 4-H camping program can decide which of these five ideas they could use to support the Cascade Lake 4-H Camp.

Please take a look and see how you might be able to donate to the Camp. Every donation of time and/or money is greatly appreciated.

Heard Around The Campfire
Everyone has a favorite camp song. Here are some of the favorites from our camp alumni…

Brenda Nelson Reed – “Pepperoni Pizza, Pasta Mis-soula, we are the girls and we’re louder than you are!”
Suzanne Sample Steenkolk – “Teapot or Rise and Shine”
Susan Huter – “Kum Ba Yah”
Heather Lauer – “I Like the Mountains”
Katie Montgomery Hammon – “Rise and Shine”
Bubba Legg – “Teapot”
Janet Benoit – “Make New Friends”
Janet Anderson – “I’m A Nut”
Bob Allenger – “Boom Chicka Boom”

“My 4-H friends were my best friends. In 4-H we didn’t have cliques and kids were friends because of who we were rather than what we wore or what we looked like.” – Brenda Reed

Spring Camp Work Weekend

Cascade Lake 4-H Camp invites you to Spring Work Weekend May 18-20, 2012. Volunteers have always been a very important part of keeping the 4-H Camp operating every year. There is always a list of projects that need our attention every spring and never enough time or resources for the Camp Board get them all accomplished.

Come spend the day working with other friends of the camp and then enjoy the evening relaxing at the campfire by the lake. Meals will be provided by the Camp Board for workers all day Saturday and Sunday morning. We also have cabins available for our volunteer workers. Individuals, clubs and groups can come for a day or stay for the weekend. Bring your family to help with the chores and fun. Please let us know how many will be attending so we can prepare enough food and if you want to reserve a cabin.

Contact Kathy at 467-3237 or lauerk@heritagewifi.com for questions and cabin reservations.

Give 5 to Camp Challenge

Make new friends but keep the old; one is silver and the other gold.

Remember singing this song at 4-H Camp?

The Cascade Lake 4-H Camp is looking for new and old friends for the 46 year old camp in Donnelly. We are looking for support of the camp to get it ready for the 50th Anniversary of the facility.

We’d like to tell you about ‘Give 5 to Camp’ and the ways you, your club and others can help with 4-H Camps and the Campground in Donnelly. When many give the support they can afford, much can be accomplished.

Click here to download and read the ‘Give 5 to Camp’ flyer and spread the news. Help Cascade Lake 4-H Camp keep making memories of s’mores over the campfire, swims and canoe rides on the lake, fun crafts, wishboats and making new friends available for all the youth in District II.

To get District II 4-H clubs involved, we announced last year a challenge to all clubs to see who can reach the most of the 5 goals of the ‘Give 5 to Camp’. The club accomplishing the most will be awarded 2 full scholarships for 4-Hers in their club to a 2012 4-H Adventure Camp of their choice. All other clubs will be put in a drawing for an additional camp scholarship. Last year Dry Lake 4H Club in Canyon received the 2 scholarships and Payette River Ranchers in Valley the other scholarship.

All clubs involved in the ‘Give 5 to Camp’ challenge will also be put into a drawing for 1 full scholarship to a 2012 4-H Adventure Camp. The challenge starts March 1 and all involvement and donations must be received by the Cascade Lake 4-H Camp, 217 W Georgia Suite 100, Nampa, ID 83686 by June 10, 2012. Download the report/donation form here.
